Silver Lake was named after Herman Silver and the Silver Lake Reservoir. Hugo Reid originally named the area Ivanhoe because it looked like his hometown in Scotland.
Walt Disney built his first studio here in 1930 before moving to Burbank.
The biggest event in Silver Lake is the annual Sunset Junction Street Fair held each August originally designed to unite the variety of ethnic and sexual cultures co-existing in the city.
